VERONA, NJ – Turning Point’s benefit gala has become an annual
tradition over the past decade and, this year, the agency’s Board
of Trustees wanted to try something completely different. The result,
“An Evening of Magic & Laughter,” raised nearly $85,000
to benefit Turning Point’s treatment programs for those suffering
from the disease of alcohol and drug addiction.
The event, held at the elegant Crystal Plaza in Livingston, featured John
Pizzi, who performs a singular blend of stand-up comedy, magic, ventriloquism
and illusion and who had the 200 guests in stitches.
The evening also included a cocktail dinner reception, music , dancing,
and prize raffles. The featured raffle prize was a 52” Toshiba LCD
Television donated by Electronics Expo of Wayne.
“Every year, our Gala is a great opportunity to raise funds and touch
base with our wonderful supporters,” said Dr. Manuel Guantez, Executive
Director, “and this year, it was an especially fun time from start
to finish.” Turning Point, nationally recognized for its compassionate
and effective treatment of alcoholism and drug dependency, has served
more than 35,000 clients from Essex County and surrounding communities
at its residential treatment centers since 1975.
