Turning Point Awarded Competitive Grant to Expand Detox Services

August 28, 2008

VERONA, NJ – Turning Point has been named one of only two addiction treatment agencies in New Jersey to receive funding to expand its medically enhanced detoxification services. The funds were awarded by the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services, following a competitive bidding process that involved a number of other drug treatment agencies across the state.

The funds will enable Turning Point to enhance and expand its existing detox unit. The agency will now have a total of 16 beds dedicated to treating intravenous drug users who need non-hospital based, enhanced, medically managed detoxification treatment.

Dr. Manuel Guantez, Turning Point’s Executive Director, said, “After years of watching detox programs throughout New Jersey close, it’s wonderful to see the state make an effort to expand funding of these services. There is such a dire need.”

This Division of Addiction Services funding announcement is the latest in an array of pilot services the Division has launched in recent years to strengthen New Jersey’s inpatient and outpatient drug abuse treatment program capacity and outreach.

Turning Point has provided treatment services for more than 35,000 New Jersey residents struggling with alcohol and drug addiction since 1975. The organization is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and adheres to the criteria set by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
