Our Commitment

In 2001, a report commissioned by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation entitled, Substance Abuse, The Nation’s Number One Health Problem, described addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disease that affects Americans of all walks of life. It goes on to report that substance abuse causes more deaths, illnesses, and disabilities than any other preventable health condition and places an enormous burden on society.

The National Center of Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University released its findings based on more than a decade of research in a book entitled, Women Under the Influence (The Johns Hopkins University Press, 2006). Their research found that:

Women become addicted to alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs at lower levels of use and in less time than men do. Many women recovering from addiction suffer from mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, or emotional liabilities like low self-esteem, guilt, and shame.

These conditions make recovery more difficult for women and put them at higher risk of relapse. Their long-term recovery is dependent upon the successful resolution of these issues and the adoption of effective life skills and coping behaviors. This is why, for so many, 28-day rehabilitation programs are not enough. These women need long-term treatment in a structured, caring environment like Anderson House.

Anderson House is dedicated to providing the highest quality halfway house treatment to help women build a solid foundation for a sober, productive and happy future. While we accept self-pay clients, Anderson House is deeply committed to serving women who are homeless and can’t afford to pay for their care. We assist clients in accessing eligible funding to help pay for their treatment and are committed to providing our clients with the care that is equal to or better than that available anywhere.
