Turning Point Speaker Jam - NEW BEGINNINGS

Turning Point sponsored its 4th Speaker Jam on Saturday, January 16, 2016. Approximately 30 volunteers from the recovering community came to the facility to share their experience, strength and hope on various topics that related directly to clients in treatment.

Alumni speakers were from the Turning Point Cedar Grove/Verona site, the outpatient programs, the former Secaucus site, as well as Anderson House and the current Paterson residential site.

Other guest speakers traveled great distances to bring a message of hope and recovery to the Turning Point clients. One speaker drove up from Baltimore, MD and stated that “this was an absolutely wonderful and moving experience for him” and he was pleased to have had the opportunity to serve in this capacity. Another speaker traveled from Brooklyn, NY by public transportation in order to fulfill his “obligation” to “give back” to the program. There were more than 60 people in attendance along with over 100 clients on both units.

Two simultaneous “Jam” sessions were conducted – female speakers on the women’s unit and male speakers on the male unit - keeping true to Turning Point’s philosophy.

Staff donated items for a giveaway such as socks, recovery books and other literature, candy and snacks. Several gift bags containing recovery items were “raffled’ to both the male and female units. Several off-duty staff members came to be a part of the recovery jam helping out; but enjoying the atmosphere. Turning Point donated snacks and drinks for the day’s event.
