All across the world, there is an unfortunate stigma that surrounds drug addiction and overdoses. People tend to be afraid of someone who has suffered an overdose, wanting to steer away from them rather than help them regain their strength and defeat addiction. In order to help remove this unfair stigma and bring attention to the complexities and consequences of drug overdoses, August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day.
Turning Point — the most trusted name in drug rehabilitation centers in New Jersey — is proud to recognize and participate International Overdose Awareness Day. First initiated back in 2001 in Australia and in part with The Salvation Army, the campaign has been helping people better understand the dangers of substance addiction, what drug users are going through each day, and how to overcome drug abuse. The key focus of International Overdose Awareness Day, though, is a warning that drug overdose deaths are fully preventable with care, support, and knowledge. The more people know about and understand the signs and symptoms of a drug overdose, the more lives can be saved each year.
