The Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has impacted recovery services nationwide and may be fueling the next wave of the opioid epidemic. This is why the services we offer at Turning Point are more important than ever before.
That being said, many people who are struggling with addiction are also dealing with fears related to the COVID-19 crisis. We wrote this blog to help ease your concerns. Turning Point remains steadfast in our mission and to those who seek our help to break free from alcohol and drug addiction and their co-occurring disorders.
Turning Point has developed a multi-pronged systematic approach to managing COVID-19 at our facility. We have incorporated current guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New Jersey Department of Health to reduce exposure and transmission. Before admitting new patients, we screen them carefully and ensure they are free of COVID-19 – regardless of whether or not they have symptoms. We have designated locations for the purposes of screening and isolation, where we determine whether potential patients have symptomatology consistent with COVID-19 and determine which asymptomatic patients require further screening. We then move all new patients who pass our comprehensive screening process into our dedicated isolation area, where we monitor them daily for signs or symptoms of the virus. On day 5, we retest these new patients in cohorts. If anyone in the cohort tests positive, patients are discharged to their primary care physician or St. Joseph Medical Center. Only patients who test negative are cleared for general participation in our addiction treatment programs.
A Word from Lionel Anisette, M.D. Medical Director
“Management for COVID-19 is based upon risk stratification, strategies and prioritized based upon assessment. I am confident that with the protocols and procedures Turning Point has put into place we will continue to provide a safe and structured environment for our clients.”
